"Hi, are you awake? :(" she pressed the send button and waited for a reply from the other end.
"OMG! A text at 3:15a.m! Are you okay? By the way, good morning. :)", Prithvi replied after waking up from his sleep in the morning.
He waited for her to text back but no response came.
Thinking that she must be asleep, he dialled her number.
*After 2 rings*
"Hey! Tell me what happened? A text at such wee hour of the night, everything is fine?" He inquired.
"Ummm... Prithvi, I had a nightmare. The same one again. Am really scared", Ayesha sounded low while saying this.
"Not again Ayesha! Am really tired of all your drama and filmy stories. What is it that you saw this time? Who died? Me, or you?" Prithvi was infuriated.
"Am sorry. But these aren't in my control naa. I... I saw you with a girl. We three were standing near a cliff. She asked you to prove your love for her, and whether you can push me down the cliff. And all the while, I begged you to leave me and let me go. I couldn't see her face clearly. But she was wearing a bright yellow dress." Ayesha broke off into tears.
"Oh wow! That's such a great masala story!!! Will you please stop watching your Z grade daily soaps? They get into my nerves. Okay bye, am getting late for my class", He replied nonchalantly.
"Hmmm... I know I am exaggerating things. Am sorry to irritate you early in the morning. It's just that, I don't know why a girl in a yellow dress is haunting me so much in my dreams. Anyways, Take Care, I love you." And she hung up half-heartedly.
"Where are you baby? Why aren't you taking up my calls? It's 10p.m. Am not feeling well. :'( Going to sleep. I hope you are fine. Please reply." Ayesha texted this to Prithvi though a part of her knew it'll go unnoticed.
*beep beep, beep beep*
She woke up with a start on hearing the message alert of her phone.
Her heartbeats increased. She was elated.
Yes, Prithvi still could do that to her even after 3 years of their relationship.
Her face drooped.
It was a text from an unknown number.
"Want to know where Prithvi is? ;)
Just come to flat no. 213 beside his hostel. See you soon! ;)"
She started shivering. Her throat had dried. With shaking legs, she rushed to the given address.
And there he was!
In a tight embrace, his physique clearly visible in the moonlight. That physique, Ayesha could tell it was him even in the darkness, because she was well aware of every minute details of him.
They had their lips locked with each other, their body melting into one with every passing moment.
From whatever she could deduce from the distance, she figured a girl draped in a yellow dress.
This was it.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
She froze at the spot, and found it difficult to carry herself any further.
She could hear her heart shattering into a millions of pieces, and each piece devoured her in an unbearable pain.
*The Next Morning*
"Who the hell is calling at this odd hour?", the girl asked in her half asleep voice and stirred a little under the bed sheet that covered them.
"Let me see baby, you sleep", Prithvi kissed on her forehead and reached out for his phone.
"WHAT!!!! what are you saying? Have you gone mad? Listen Rishi, please stop cracking such jokes for god sake", he shouted with his trembling voice.
"Am sorry Prithvi, but unfortunately, it is true. Ayesha jumped off the terrace of her hostel last night and breathed her last. Her body has been sent to her parents for the funeral", Rishi could barely speak in between his cries.
"But why? I mean! It's her birthday in a few days and she was so excited about it! What happened all of a sudden?
Did she mention anywhere why is she doing this? Has she left some kind of suicide note?"
"No dude, nothing as such was found that could suggest what made her commit such a hideous act. Except two facts that remains unanswered"
"And what is it?"
"She had her headphones plugged in and the song 'Somebody's Me' was playing in a loop. And moreover, no one really knows why did she put on a beautiful YELLOW DRESS before jumping off the building."
Prithvi went numb.
A deafening shrill cry out of no where made his head buzz. His gaze was fixed into nowhere.
The phone line had gone dead...
The yellow dress of the girl was lying beside their bed, looking all the more ominous.
